The iron deficiency self-test measures the concentration of ferritin in your blood, which is a measure of the amount of iron in your body. Ferritin is a protein that can bind and store iron in the cells of the liver and bone marrow. The test is abnormal if you have less than 20ng/ml ferritin in your blood. This means that your body contains too little iron.
The reliability of self-tests is established on the basis of true positive results or true negative results. This iron deficiency self-test has been established after a clinical trial with 106 participants and achieves reliability values of more than 95%. This self-test achieves comparable results to laboratory tests.
